In this Episode

In today’s episode, we talk about play! There are so many opportunities for play with items around our home and Emma from @play_at_home_mummy has an Instagram account that beautifully illustrates this. We chat about setting up a playroom, different types of play, what to do when siblings argue, sensory bins, risky play, play and development, and more!

Some Key Points:

  • Have a house rule: Respect each other’s play! This should be applied by siblings and can help when they don’t want to share. Parents should also follow this!
  • Having too many toys in a child’s environment creates visual noise for a child. Minimizing toys helps!
  • When children are arguing for a toy, name their feelings or emotions first then address the issue.
  • Don’t worry so much about the developmental milestones when thinking of play. Let their interests guide you! If they are enjoying emptying bins, give them different bins to empty (a bin with yarn, another with ribbon, one with balls)
